Club Regulations and Information
The Club has realised that the present rules are a little out of date and do not reflect some recent changes on some waters controlled by the Club, car parking at some venues, etc. Only minor changes to some wording, etc. have been made. The Rules and Regulations below are the revised ones that will need to be ratified at the next A.G.M. but they will be in general use until that time.
Rules can only be amended at an Annual General Meeting or at a Special General Meeting on a two thirds majority. Regulations can be changed at any formal meeting of the Club by a majority vote.
Regulations for each of the Club’s waters can be found on the “Club Waters” page.
The combination numbers for the locked gates on Club Waters are not included in these notes. They should be obtained from the Honorary Secretary.
General Regulations
1. Name
The name of the Club is The Wakefield Metropolitan Angling Club – hereinafter called “the Club”
2. Objectives
The Club is established to encourage and promote angling as a pastime.
3. Membership
A. Categories of Membership
(i) Honorary Life Members – Honorary Life Membership may be granted to any member on a recommendation of the Committee being adopted on a majority vote at an Annual General Meeting.
(ii) Retired Members – Retired membership will be granted to persons who are 65 years old before April 1st of the membership year.
(iii) Junior Members – Junior membership will only be available to members children and grandchildren who are under 18 years of age on 1 June in the year of membership.
(iv) Ordinary Members – All other members will be called “Ordinary Members.”
B. Rights of the Various Categories of Membership.
All members other than Junior Members will have the same rights. The special regulations applicable to Junior Members are:-
(i) The adult member for a Junior member will be responsible for the child’s behaviour.
(ii) They will have the right to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Club, as observers but shall not have right to speak in debate or vote on any issue.
(iii) Junior members must not fish Club waters unless accompanied at all times by the adult member.
(iv) Junior Members will not be eligible to fish in matches unless the Assistant Honorary Secretary agrees that in any match, Junior Members would not make the total number of competitors excessive.
C. Admission of New Members to the Club .
Any person over 18 can apply for membership. Application forms can be obtained from any member or digitally from our Facebook page or from this website.
4. Member’s Conduct.
Members are expected to abide by club rules and to be aware and respectful to others and to their surroundings. If the Club receives a complaint about a member’s behaviour, then the member has the right to submit an explanation by letter or interview. If the issue cannot be resolved by this, then the member will be asked to appear before the Management Committee to submit an explanation.
5. President, Vice President and Officers.
There shall be a President, a Vice President, an Honorary Secretary, an Honorary Assistant (Match) Secretary and an Honorary Treasurer.
It shall be the duty of the President (or in his absence, the Vice President) to preside at all meetings of the Management Committee and at General Meetings of the Club.
6. Management Committee.
The Management Committee shall consist of Past Presidents and Past Vice Presidents, the President, the Vice President, the Honorary Secretary, the Honorary Assistant Secretary, the Honorary Treasurer and six other members.
7. Election of Officers and Management Committee.
The President, the Vice-President, the Honorary Secretary, The Honorary Assistant Secretary, the Honorary Treasurer and members of the Committee shall be elected annually at the Annual General Meeting of the Club. Vacancies may be filled by the Management Committee.
8. Subscriptions.
The annual subscription for each category of membership shall be fixed at the Annual General Meeting from time to time. The President, Secretary and Treasurer to decide on a reduced subscription for those joining late in a season. However, members may only take advantage of this reduced subscription the first time they join. If they leave the Club and apply to rejoin at a later date they will have to pay a full subscription irrespective of the time of year.
Renewal subscriptions shall be paid to the Honorary Treasurer before the first of May.
9. Annual General Meeting.
The Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held in the month of March at which the Honorary Secretary shall submit a report and the Honorary Treasurer shall present the accounts and balance sheet for the preceding year ending on the 31st December.
10. Calling of Meetings.
(i) Meetings of the Management Committee shall be held as, and when necessary at the discretion of the President and Honorary Secretary.
(ii) Special General Meetings of Members shall be called with twenty one days of the receipt by the Honorary Secretary of a requisition signed by not less than five members of the Club, stating fully the question involved.
11. Casting Vote.
At all meetings the Chairman shall have a second or casting vote in the event of a tied vote.
12. Fishing Rights.
All Members are entitled to fish the Clubs Waters. Members must hold an appropriate valid Fishing Licences.
Regulations regarding the use of each Club water will be agreed by the Management Committee. Members must be fully aware of these regulations which have the same force as the Club Rules. These Regulations are given below and will be updated as and when agreed by the Management Committee.
13. Alteration of Rules.
Club rules may be altered at an Annual General Meeting or a Special General Meeting of the Club, but not otherwise. A signed copy of any proposed alteration to be considered at an A.G.M. must be delivered to the Hon. Sec. by 31st January. A majority of two thirds of members present and voting at the meeting shall be required. “Regulations” can be changed at any formal Club meeting by simple majority vote.
Presentation of Cups and Trophies
All cups and trophies are presented at the AGM and unless otherwise stated, will be held for one year.
The holder of each cup or trophy is responsible for its safe keeping and may be held responsible for any loss or damage.
Cups and trophies which are held for one year only should be returned to the Honorary Secretary by the 1st January each year.
Award of Cups and Trophies.
A. The Joe Entwisle Fish of the Year Trophy is awarded for the best fish caught in the year and shall be presented to the winner at the next succeeding AGM following the close of the competition year on 31st December.
All fish entered for the competition shall be judged according to the standards set annually by the Management Committee, and must have been caught by fair rod and line angling in the Club’s waters. Members will be notified of these standards each year in a letter from the Honorary Secretary.
All claims are to be in the hands of the Honorary Secretary of the Club not later than five days after capture of the fish. Each claim must state the species of fish, date and place of capture, weight, the method of angling and bait used and should be witnessed preferably by two persons. If one witness only is available, acceptance of the claim will be subject to a decision by the Management Committee.
Any fish which is the subject to a claim must be weighed alive and witnessed on the bank, the Club’s scales being used whenever possible. If other scales are used the fact should be stated on the claim and the scales made available to the Club’s Honorary Secretary for checking.
The period during which the competition is open is 1st January to 31st December, i.e. a calendar year.
These rules are subject to review annually, especially as regards the specimen, standard weights detailed in rule (ii) above.
B. Liversedge Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the member with the highest aggregate score at matches. At each match ten points will be given to the winner, nine to the second, eight to the third, down to one point for tenth place.
C. NBNQ (“Nearly but not Quite”)Trophy was presented by Mr David Marcus to be awarded to the runner up in the “League Championship.”.
D. Willie Felton Bretton Cup is awarded for the highest number of points in the “League Championship” gained in evening matches.
E. Winn Challenge Cup is awarded to the Captor of the heaviest fish (pike excluded) caught in the Winn Challenge Cup Match.
F. Keith Dobson Plate is awarded to the winner of the match for the Winn Challenge Cup.
G. Winn Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Winn Trophy Match..
H. Mike Adams Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Mike Adams Trophy Match.
I. George Lancaster Memorial Trophy is awarded to the winner of the “Away” match.
J. Col Lovell Tankard is awarded to the winner of the “Away Match”.
K. Adams Memorial Trophy awarded to the winner of the Adams Memorial Match.
L. The President’s Trophy is a trophy donated annually by the President, is awarded for the best fish caught during Adams Memorial Match. The specimen standards are the same as those for the Joe Entwistle Fish of the Year Trophy.
M. Albert Douglas Plate is awarded to the winner of the Albert Douglas Plate Match.
N. The Kemplay Cup is awarded to the winner of the Kemplay Cup Match.
O. Peter Dorman Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Peter Dorman Trophy Match.
P. Ken Cremer Memorial Cup is awarded to the winner of the Xmas Match.
Q. Trophy Awarded to winner of the first Evening Match
R. Trophy Awarded to winner of the last Evening Match
S. Trophy Awarded to winners of the Pairs Match
